What Is DECT?

DECT stands for Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications. It is a standard primarily used for cordless phones, but it has also been adapted for wireless headsets, especially in office environments.

Here’s what DECT offers in the context of Bluetooth headsets:

1. Range: DECT headsets generally offer a much longer range than standard Bluetooth headsets, typically around 90 meters or more, compared to Bluetooth’s typical range of around 10 meters.
2. Interference Resistance: DECT operates on a different frequency band (typically 1.9 GHz) than Bluetooth (which operates in the 2.4 GHz band). This reduces the chance of interference from Wi-Fi networks, microwaves, and other devices that commonly use the 2.4 GHz band.
3. Security: DECT has strong encryption and authentication protocols, making it a secure choice for communications.
4. Battery Life: DECT headsets often have longer battery life compared to Bluetooth headsets due to more efficient power usage.
